THE last of the Civil War talks in Middlewich will take place on December 5 and focus on the Battle of Winwick.

Three talks on different Civil War battles have taken place in the town so far and have raised £762.50 towards the Middlewich battlefield marker, which will be placed somewhere in the intersection of Lewin Street, Booth Lane and Brooks Lane.

Kerry Fletcher, Middlewich Town Council heritage officer, said: “We are hoping the talks will provide enough money for the Battlefield marker. A very special thank you to the Battlefields Trust and the fantastic speakers for giving their time to our appeal.”

The last talk at the Wych Centre in Civic Way will be delivered by historian Richard Ward.

He discusses the little known action which followed the defeat of the Anglo-Scottish royalist army at Preston during the second civil war in 1648. Richard has studied the battle for many years and acts as the Battlefields Trust representative there.

Richard will be bringing together points from each of the previous three talks, creating a platform for the last decisive battle in Cheshire.

The talk will start at 2.30pm with doors opening at 2pm. Ticket prices are £7.50 with refreshments included and are available from Middlewich Town Council offices in Lewin Street.
