AROUND two thousand people came out to pay their respects to fallen soldiers in Winsford and Middlewich on Remembrance Sunday.

Remembrance services were held at the towns’ war memorials in Fountain Court in Winsford and the Bull Ring in Middlewich, on Sunday, November 8.

More than one thousand people attended the service in Middlewich after members of the public lined the streets for the parade and hundreds turned out for the service in Winsford.

Middlewich town mayor Ken Kingston laid a wreath at the Middlewich service on behalf of the town council and said it was an honour to do so.

He said: “I placed the wreath on behalf of the Middlewich Town Council as mayor, and having been the organiser of the Middlewich Poppy Appeal for many years it was a fantastic honour.”

Rev George Crowder read out the names of the 21 men from Winsford who lost their lives during 1915 at the service in Winsford, before town mayor Ailsa Gaskill-Jones laid a wreath at the war memorial.

Cllr Gaskill-Jones said: “It was fabulous to see so many people attend this year's Remembrance Service, in particular it was great to see so many Winsford residents, uniformed groups and community organisations coming together to remember the fallen.

“On behalf of the town I was honoured to welcome the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire to Winsford who was also impressed at the number of people in attendance.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in ensuring the event ran so smoothly especially the British Legion, my chaplain Rev George Crowder, The Salvation Army, my Junior Mayor Shannon Mitchell and town council staff."
