ROYAL British Legion Middlewich Branch chairman Geoff Page is back in Middlewich for this year’s Remembrance Sunday, but told the Guardian of the privilege he was given a year ago in New Zealand.
Geoff was in Christchurch, New Zealand, during Remembrance Sunday 2014, which happened to also be a special celebration of 150 years of the forming of the Cadet Force in New Zealand.
The Middlewich Branch chairman was invited to lay a wreath on Remembrance Sunday on behalf of Great Britain.
As Christchurch is still coming to terms with the earthquake of 2011 the ceremony took place in the Park of Remembrance by the Statue of 24213 Pte Henry James Nicholas VC.
Geoff said: “I was asked if I would join Cannon David Morrell Consul for Great Britain in laying a wreath on behalf of Great Britain which I was most honoured to do.
“It was a very emotional day and I was very proud to have been a part of the ceremony.”
Geoff also laid a wreath two days later on Armistice Day on behalf of Middlewich Royal British Legion.
