PUPILS from Middlewich High School were given an eye-opening experience into other cultures when they went on a school trip trekking across India.

Twenty one pupils from years 10 and 11 at Middlewich High travelled to the second most populated country in the world during the summer holidays in July.

The trip was part of World Challenge, which aims to help young people to explore their limits and grow in confidence, resourcefulness and global citizenship.

The pupils were tasked with raising their own funds for the trip, amounting to more than £2,300. They managed to raise the funds through car washing, bag packing and a sponsored walk up Snowdon in Wales.

Alex Smith, 15, one of the pupils who went on the expedition, said: “Whilst in a local village, we installed a water pipe system on a house, built an incinerator, and most enjoyably of all, we met the village children at their school.

"The children were as delighted to see us as we were them, and it was a very humbling experience to see such a different way of life.

“Overall, it was an absolutely fantastic experience, which I would recommend to anyone who gets the opportunity to go on World Challenge in the future.”
