MIDDLEWICH town councillor Bill Walmsley has expressed his disgust at the decision to approve the waste transfer station, saying Middlewich residents will have to ‘pay for the mistake’.
Cllr Walmsley spoke at the meeting on behalf of Middlewich Town Council, appealing to the board to reject the application.
“This decision is wrong for Middlewich and all the residents of east Cheshire,” Cllr Walmsley said, following the approval.
“Middlewich produces three per cent of the borough’s waste, so 97 per cent of the borough’s waste will have to be transported to the town over great distances – from as far away as Bollington, Poynton, Macclesfield and Congleton for example. The whole project is not sustainable but it is the residents who are going to have to pay for this mistake.”
