PLANS by Middlewich construction company Pochin’s to build a Scottish Power warehouse in the town will go ahead after being approved.

Cheshire East Council’s southern planning board voted in favour of the plans at a meeting on Wednesday, August 5.

The development, which will be built on Midpoint 18, will function as an operational depot with extensive yard space for Scottish Power vehicles.

The 2.1 acre triangular site will feature a 13,391sq ft unit with associated parking, access and service areas, giving a gross external area for the development of 15,468sq ft.

Bob Nicholson, director of property at Pochin’s, said: “Midpoint 18 has long been a major attraction for businesses servicing the north west and we will be extremely pleased to welcome a business of Scottish Power’s calibre to the park. Both companies have a strong affiliation with Middlewich and we expect this growing relationship to further support the local economy.”

Work on the depot is expected to start soon with Scottish Power aiming to move into its new Middlewich home in August next year.

John Heathman, district general manager for SP Energy Networks, said: “We are delighted that the proposals to build a new depot in Middlewich have been approved. This will be a modern and functional facility for our teams of engineers, technicians and office staff.

“We will also be increasing the size of our team in Middlewich, from 40 to 65, who will play an important role in supporting millions of pounds of investments across our network in the coming years, benefitting thousands of homes and businesses.

“Subject to the final agreements, we hope that the depot will be constructed and operational by August 2016."

The parking at the depot will include room for 67 cars, 20 vans and 10 heavy goods vehicles.
