MONTHS of campaigning by Middlewich residents against the planned waste transfer site has been culminated into one final letter of objection before the application gets voted on.

Cheshire East Council first announced plans to build a waste transfer site managed by Ansa in Cledford Lane in December last year and residents have been protesting against the plans ever since.

The application, which was submitted in May, will be voted on by Cheshire East Council’s strategic planning board on Wednesday, August 26.

Middlewich town councillor David Latham created the campaign group Action Against Ansa and has now sent a final letter of objection to planning officer Emma Williams before the meeting.

Cllr Latham’s letter calls on the council to follow their own footsteps left three years ago when they refused plans for a waste incinerator in Middlewich.

The letter reads: “In my mind we are now virtually exactly back where we were three years ago when this council fought with all its might against a very similar application.

“I would like to take you back to exactly three years ago when this same council stood with the people of Middlewich and not against it, in a fight against a proposal to build a waste incinerator plant in Middlewich.”

Cllr Latham goes on to point out that reasons for refusal three years ago had not changed or had even worsened such as insufficient road networks and traffic impact including vehicle emissions.

Details of a petition containing 1,300 signatures are included as well as 900 members on the Action Against Ansa campaign group Facebook page.

It is also highlighted that the application breaches ten Cheshire East Council planning policies. To read the full letter sent to the planning officer, visit the page named ‘Action Against Ansa’ on Facebook.

The letter finishes by asking the board to refuse the application, stating: “For the above reasons I now ask Cheshire East Council and the borough council planning committee to listen to the people of Middlewich and myself and refuse this planning application in full.”
