RESIDENTS turned out in force on Saturday to tell Cheshire East Council ‘the Ansa is no’ about plans to bring a waste transfer site to Middlewich.
Cheshire East Council’s strategic planning board will vote on plans to build a waste transfer site, run by environmental company Ansa, in Cledford Lane, on August 26.
With the meeting fast approaching, Middlewich town councillor David Latham, who is also the founder of the ‘Action Against Ansa’ campaign group, led a silent protest where the waste site will be built.
Around 70 members of the public gathered to show their support and Cllr Latham is hoping the members of the board take notice.
Cllr Latham said: “Showing that there was a protest and showing residents all getting behind it, it should be an eye opener for Cheshire East Council.
“When you start getting large amounts of people gathering on a Saturday, it’s quite clear. I’m hoping they will wake up and listen to the people of Middlewich.
“The next meeting is the important one and we will be staging a protest there as well but they are playing silly fools because they won’t tell us where the meeting will be held. They’re just trying to put people off going but that won’t happen.”
