MIDDLEWICH Town Council is exploring the idea of taking charge of the three public car parks in the town.

The car parks on Civic Way, Seabank and Southway are all currently operated by Cheshire East Council and talks are ongoing between the two authorities for the town council to take over the reins of the three car parks.

A letter from Cheshire East Council to Middlewich town councillor Bernice Walmsley read: “We are currently developing a car parking strategy for Cheshire East. Although this is a high level document setting out our ambition to regenerate our towns and improve traffic management.

“Do you have an interest in taking over the management and all this would entail from Cheshire East Council of the car parks in your area that we currently own.”

Middlewich Town Council clerk Jonathan Williams confirmed that taking over the car parks is a possibility.

Jonathan said: “We said we’d be happy to speak to them about it but with no commitment at the moment.”

“The main thing we want to do is maintain that there is no charge at the car parks.”
