THOUSANDS of petrol heads arrived in Middlewich over the weekend for the eighth Classic Car and Bike Show in the town.

The annual event took place on Market Field on Saturday, July 18 and Sunday July 19, and after the event was rained off on the Sunday last year, Middlewich Town Council was delighted to have the show back to its best this year.

Dave Thompson, Middlewich Town Council events manager, said: “It was great, it was a fantastic variety of cars and bikes each day and it was very busy both days.

“Last year it was pretty much rained off on the Sunday but this year we were quite lucky with the weather and I would say in terms of visitors we were well up on last year, there were several thousand people each day.

“It’s becoming a small concern in a way because of where we park the visitors when they come but it’s a good problem to have.

“I took a bit more time this year to look around at what was there and it was surprising to see all these vehicles in one spot. The contrast is what stands out, I was looking a big Rolls Royce parked next to a little MG Midget, that’s the variety you get.

“I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who helped over the weekend to make it such a success.”

Middlewich Mayor Cllr Ken Kingston admitted to not having a regular interest in classic cars and bikes, but said the show attracts all kinds of people.

Middlewich Mayor Cllr Ken Kingston said: “I thought it was yet another very successful Middlewich show. It was interesting from my point of view because I hadn’t seen most of the cars and bikes shown on the day before.

“It’s great because it obviously attracts people who are into it all the time but it’s also something different for the rest of us to see.”
