CHESHIRE Fire Cadets has announced that Middlewich cadet Cai Burt has been made the country’s first chief fire cadet.

Cheshire Fire Cadets celebrated a year of success on Saturday, July 4, and to mark the celebration event, two recruits were given promotions.

Cadets from across the county and parents attended the event at Mid Cheshire College and witnessed Cai receive his chief fire cadet title.

Sandbach’s Elaine Gnyp was also promoted to deputy chief.

Cai and Elaine will be given a new uniform to identify them and will attend special functions and ceremonies to represent Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Cheshire Fire Cadets.

Nick Evans, youth engagement manager for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "It was a great day and fun was had by all, especially during the games.

“We also got a chance to honour some of the service's finest cadets with the creation of two very special roles and Cia and Elaine were very surprised and honoured to be chosen.

“They will be given special uniforms to signal their ranking and will be ambassadors for the cadets and represent them at official events in the future."

During the celebration the young people took part in the Cadet Olympics which Tarporley won, and the hose reel running competition was won by Widnes Fire Cadets.
