AN ARMY Reservist from Middlewich has been honoured for his ‘selfless commitment’.

Lance Corporal Christopher Mottershaw, 28, from D Company 4th Battalion the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, was awarded the Lord-Lieutenant’s Commendation.

The award was presented to L Cpl Mottershaw in recognition of his selfless commitment to maintaining his unit’s physical training programme through a challenging period of time.

L Cpl Mottershaw said: “I’m extremely proud to have been selected for this award. It has really motivated me to continue on and want to achieve even greater things in the future. I have always wanted to be a part of the Armed Forces, wishing to meet new people and learn new skills, all whilst looking to serve my community and improve my skills.”

The Middlewich soldier joined the Army Reserve in 2010 and when the D Company relocated to Stoke-on-Trent in 2014, L Cpl Mottershaw committed to the 70-mile round trip as the only physical training instructor in the company and accommodating his day job as a child lifestyle advisor.

Colonel Mark Underhill, chief executive of the north west of England and the Isle of Man Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association, said: “The tireless commitment and dedication shown by Corporal Mottershaw to supporting the Army Reserve, and the contribution he makes to the wider community, is worthy of public recognition and the award of Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate of Merit.”
