A NEW service dubbed the Smart Energy Scheme has been launched in Cheshire East to help people save money.

Housing association Peaks and Plains Housing Trust has launched the new scheme which is being funded by Cheshire East Council.

The Smart Energy Team work across the borough focusing on people who are most at risk of fuel poverty, such as older people or families with small children. They will carry out a home visit and give advice to help people reduce their energy usage, and find the cheapest energy tariffs available to them as well as offering cookery classes to help people make the most of leftovers and save even more.

Rebecca Parr, energy support officer, said: “Times are tight for a lot of us at the moment, and since the project has been running we’ve met lots of people who are struggling to pay expensive fuel bills. So far we’ve been able to help people save an average of £150 per year, so it’s definitely worthwhile getting in touch.

“We’re really excited to offer this service to everyone in Cheshire East and we hope to help lots more people save money.”

Anyone who feels that they, or someone then know, could benefit from the service can get in touch on 0800 0121311 or email smartenergy@peaksplains.org.
