A NEW cake and coffee shop has opened in Middlewich and pupils from Middlewich High School have been rewarded for helping the café with some decorative art.

The new shop, Cups and Cakes, has moved into Wheelock Street next door to Chimichangos, taking up the empty building where Choklat nightclub used to be.

The café was officially opened by Mayor of Middlewich Cllr Ken Kingston on Monday, June 15, and children from Middlewich High School went along to the opening and collected vouchers for designing various artwork for the shop as well as its new logo.

Amanda Dolan, Cups and Cakes owner said: “It’s going really well so far and it will only get better when more people know where we are.

“It’s not just a cakes and coffee shop though we do celebration cakes, smoothies and milkshakes, and we’re open to hiring it out for things like baby showers.

“I want to keep the shop local, I got all Middlewich tradesman to do all the work on the shop before we moved in, I get my eggs and all ingredients from Middlewich businesses, and I get the florist in the town to do the flowers on my tables.”

The Choklat nightclub was closed in June last year after the floor caved in when England fans celebrated a goal during a World Cup match.

Amanda added: “Everyone remembers the building for the floor collapsing but we’ve had it checked thoroughly and it’s now fine and we don’t anywhere the same volume of people coming into our café as Choklat did.”
