SPEED awareness signs are set to be installed on the problematic Croxton Lane in Middlewich according to town councillor Bernice Walmsley.
Cllr Walmsley, who is also standing for election as Middlewich ward member at Cheshire East Council with Middlewich First, claims that the borough council has secured funding to erect two signs along the road.
Cllr Walmsley said: “It’s great that Cheshire East Highways are helping to solve this problem. As I live nearby I am well aware of the speeding problem on this stretch of road and the safety of residents will, I’m sure, be much improved.”
Mark and Jackie Woodberry, who run M and J Taxis in Middlewich, live o Croxton Lane and volunteered to run a two-week experimental period with Smiley Sids on Croxton Lane, and are delighted that more permanent signs are going to be placed.
Jackie said: “We are really happy with two speed awareness signs because we’ve been here for 30-odd years and nothing has ever been done.
“We’ve lost two cats and had many close calls trying to pull out onto the road. I think people just see the big open road and they don’t realise it’s a 30mph speed limit.
“I would have liked the bumps to be put on the road to be honest but it’s the fastest road for an ambulance so you can’t slow it down too much.”
