THE borough-wide Gipsy site that has now been approved in Middlewich is likely to be managed by a member of the Gipsy community employed by Cheshire East Council.
The Gipsy site plans were made in January with Cheshire East Council stating that they had a legal requirement to have a Gipsy encampment in the borough.
The point was raised at the meeting that it would be better to have a site controlled by the council rather than travellers camping around the borough and plans showed that a permanent warden would control the site.
However, Dawn Taylor, Cheshire partnership gipsy and traveller coordinator, said at the planning meeting that the warden could be a member of the Gipsy community who is employed by the council.
Mrs Taylor said: “In Halton, we went down the route of having a warden who is a resident of the traveller community and that has worked very well. But we are still looking at the best management options on the site.”
