FOOTBALL fans have inundated Remember When with their memories after we featured a photograph of a team that no longer exists.

The picture shows the former Middlewich Athletic FC and was brought in by former player and manager Dave Twite, who was keen to hear if anyone knew the year it was taken.

Tony Ikin contacted the Guardian with his guess at 1961.

"The manager at the time was Tommy Price and the trainer was Alf Curzon," he said.

"We were a very good team – we won the Mid Cheshire League either that year or the year after."

Dan Booth said: "I played with Middlewich when we won the amateur cup in 1956 and this team was after that."

David Smith also said the picture was from the 1961/62 season.

"It was a good team – we always say that but it was.

"They were different times and local football was of a very high quality then.

"The time that picture was taken was the year we won the league championship."

Pete Dutton said: "This picture was taken early 60s because I used to watch them, and my Uncle Joe Dutton, who was deaf, played half back for Middlewich in the 50s.

"He was a good footballer, some say best they have seen."

They all provided some names for the faces, as did Steve Dean, Tim Cookson, Alison Parry and Earle Ryan.

The team includes, back row from left, Tom Duffy, Dave Smith, goalkeeper Malcolm Jones, Alf Ravenscroft, Dennis Parry and Tony Ikin with, front row from left, John or Alan Hough, Jimmy Buckley, Brian Evans, Phil Twite and Ken Cookson.
