MIDDLEWICH nursery Tommy Thumbs could be set to expand with a new building and an intake of 25 more tots.

The nursery, which works as part of Cledford Primary School, has applied for planning permission from Cheshire East Council to build a 12-metre by nine-metre classroom to house two and three-year-old children.

The development of pre-school is required to accommodate the additional 25 two-year-olds who will be taken in after government funding.

Debbie Brain said: “All Tommy Thumbs at Cledford’s plans are still subject to planning permission, which itself is not due until mid April.

“We are however very excited about the prospect of working together with Cledford Primary School and Cheshire East to develop a brand new provision for our ever increasing number of two year olds. The new development will be alongside our existing Nursery setting and will welcome 25 two & three year olds.

“These children are currently housed in a classroom in Cledford Primary School. The new building will be placed beside existing pre school accommodation and will provide purpose built space, including a new outdoor space.

“Tommy Thumbs is a registered charity, community based Pre-School, and as such, welcomes children from Middlewich and the surrounding area, feeding all local Primary Schools.”

The plans are subject to planning approval, which is due to be decided upon by April 2.
