A 72-YEAR-OLD woman is in intensive care after she was trapped underneath a car after a crash on Wheelock Street.

Patricia Lewis and husband John, 79, who live on Harbutts View in Middlewich, were hit by a car on Wheelock Street at around 4pm on Friday, March 20, with Patricia being dragged underneath the car.

Patricia, who has one son, was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital by air ambulance and is currently being treated for her extensive injuries.

It is believed that a group of passers by came to Patricia’s aid and lifted the car off her.

A close family member spoke to the Guardian and said the family wants to thank everyone who helped.

The family member said: “Patricia is in intensive care and it will be a long and hard recovery for her but she is tough.

“She has a broken pelvis, broken shoulder and several broken ribs. John had an injury to his foot but he is okay.

“The family wants to thank all of the people who lifted the car off Patricia, all the people who have made enquiries about her and the kindness shown to the family.

“The paramedics, doctors, air ambulance, police, fire service and everybody who helped were amazing and I know Patricia would want to thank them.

“We are trying to get hold of a woman who was wearing a pink coat who stayed with Patricia and really helped her.”

Ambulances, firefighters and police were all at the scene and an air ambulance landed on Middlewich Football Club pitch.

The whole area was cordoned off by police with Wheelock Street, Darlington Street and Lawrence Avenue West all closed to traffic and pedestrians.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Emergency services responded to a call relating to a road traffic collision involving two pedestrians.

“A 72-year-old lady was trapped under a car and the air ambulance took her to Wythenshawe Hospital.

“A male pedestrian was also involved but was not as badly injured and he was taken to Leighton Hospital.”

Police are carrying out investigations into the cause of the incident.
