THE Labour group’s motion of no confidence in Cheshire East Council leader Michael Jones has ‘only succeeded in raising the leader’s profile’ says an independent councillor.

Cllr Roy Cartlidge, who sits in Cheshire East Council as an independent councillor, has labelled the move to issue a vote of no confidence in Cllr Michael Jones at last month’s full council meeting as ‘bad management’.

The Labour group put forward the motion at the February meeting in Sandbach and after being amended to a vote of full confidence the council voted in favour of the leader.

Cllr Cartlidge said: “To go ahead with a meaningless gesture just before an election is bad management. Do they not realise that they only succeeded in raising the profile of Michael Jones and the Tories.

“Their proposed vote of "no confidence" in the Tory leader Michael Jones was a meaningless gesture, playing party politics for the sake of it.

“They knew full well the Tory majority would vote it down and sure enough they did. In fact, the Tories rushed to support their beloved Leader.

“I can only hope that political change is on the way, and that the electorate will decide to vote out a bombastic, undemocratic council.”
