EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Amber Clayton met Her Majesty the Queen at St James’ Palace after giving a speech at a Diabetes UK event.

The Middlewich Primary School pupil has been a champion fundraiser for the charity ever since she was first diagnosed with type-one diabetes at just six-years-old.

Amber was selected to meet the queen earlier this year after her fundraising work for the charity and went along to the Diabetes UK 80th birthday celebrations in London where she was greeted by the Queen.

Feeling overwhelmed with the experience, Amber asked at the event: “Is this a dream, or is this real?"

She added: "I have been very excited and it has been making me feel a little bit sick."

Amber’s mum Helen says she has never been more proud of her daughter and was shocked at how well she delivered her speech.

Helen said: “It was an incredible day and it was great to be in the palace, which was such a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“Myself and Amber both made speeches to all of the guests there, which was about 200. I think for an eight-year-old girl to stand up in front of that many people and speak about their life with diabetes is incredible.

“She was so professional and pausing for her laughs and applause we couldn’t have been more proud of her.

“Meeting the Queen was all a bit overawing for her, she was so scared of saying something wrong, but she gave her some flowers and the Queen congratulated Amber on becoming a patron for the charity.”

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford also attended the event as both have children who suffer from type-one diabetes.
