CHESHIRE East Council will vote on a motion of no confidence in leader Michael Jones tomorrow, Thursday, with claims that he alienates a large section of the borough.

The motion was proposed and seconded by Labour councillors David Newton and Sam Corcoran and will be brought to a vote with full council at the council meeting tomorrow.

Cllr Newton says he proposed the motion due to a lack of confidence in Cllr Jones and insists that there is no political bias in the proposal.

Cllr Newton said: “I think our major concern is that there have been far too many false promises and too many back-tracks that we believe reflects in a feeling that we have no confidence.

“This is not to do with political differences because they will always be there no matter what, but this is to do with leadership style and the fact that he blames other individuals when things go wrong.

“This isn’t to say that he hasn’t done a number of good things and I will pay credit to that at the meeting but he manages to alienate a large section of Cheshire East.

“The biggest failure has been the local plan and that has been down to the intervention of the leader who has managed to tie himself in knots.”

Cllr Corcoran added: “There are two aspects of it. The first is Michael Jones’ record as a leader and as a councillor and the second being his past history on the council which shows why I have no confidence in him, but I’ll save the specifics for the meeting.”

The meeting will be held at The Ballroom in Sandbach Town Hall, High Street, at 10am.
