CHILDREN at Byley Primary School received a visit from players of Cheshire Phoenix Basketball Club to teach them the benefits of healthy eating and not smoking.

Stars of the team Demond Watt and David Aliu and coach John Lavery visited the school as part of their Hoops for Health Roadshow and look certain to have encouraged a healthy lifestyle for various youngsters.

The trio gave lessons on healthy eating and smoking before an hour session of basketball skills to encourage children to enjoy sport and physical activity.

Kay Walsh, Byley Primary School head teacher, said: “The children thought it was absolutely brilliant.
“When someone else comes in to the school the children love it and especially role models like the Cheshire Phoenix players who the children look up to.

“When you have people like that teaching them about healthy eating and smoking then they really do listen.”

The pupils took part in a quiz after the sessions and year six pupil Leah Grayson, 10, got the most questions right and was awarded with a basketball signed by the Cheshire Phoenix team.

The pupils will also be able to take advantage of an additional three hours of coaching sessions and will compete against other schools involved in the Hoops for Health Roadshow.
