A METAL detecting event was held at Bostock on Sunday to raise funds for much needed refurbishment at St Michaels and All Angels parish church in Middlewich.

Crewe and Nantwich Metal Detecting Society held the event on a field in Bostock after responding to the church’s plea for ideas and help with raising the funds.

The event raised £130 and the society unearthed several interesting medieval coins and artefacts.

As it was Remembrance Sunday, the participants observed the two minutes silence at the appropriate hour amid the hunt for buried ancient artefacts.

The thanked the landowner, Mr Atkins for allowing the members to detect on his land.

The money raised will go towards restoring the church which is in need of work amounting to around £1million.

The church is a listed building and therefore most of the money will be given through grants but the church members will have to some of it themselves.
