BYLEY Primary School held a MacMillan Coffee Afternoon and raised £250 despite only having 58 pupils.

The fundraising event saw parents of the pupils bake cakes with their children and take them into school to sell off to each other in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Kay Walsh, Byley head teacher, said: “The children persuaded their mums and dads to bake cakes and brought them in and out of the kindness of their hearts, they bought them back off us, which was hilarious but all for a good cause.

“We are incredibly thankful to the parents and pupils who took part because I think that £250 raised from a school with 58 pupils is a huge amount and we matched some schools who have hundreds of pupils.”

The pupils also wore all green, which is the official colour of Macmillan Cancer Support and took part in various activities and entertainment.

The children recited poems, read out poems of their own, sang songs and performed dance routines for their parents who had gathered in the school hall.

The charity provided poster competitions such as ‘how many sprinkles are on the donut?’ and money was also raised through visitors paying to guess the answer.
