THE return of the bus service from Winsford to Sandbach will banish Middlewich residents curfew says Councillor Mike Parsons – but he adds the town’s public transport is still not good enough.

Cheshire East Council transport co-ordinator, Glen Bubb, recently announced the return of the Arriva 37E bus service that goes from Winsford to Sandbach via Middlewich, and Cllr Parsons has welcomed the news after multiple complaints at the lack of an evening service from Middlewich.

Cllr Parsons, ward member for Middlewich at Cheshire East, called on Cheshire East Council in August to re-introduce an evening service to neighbouring towns claiming the town’s residents were under curfew after 6pm.

He now says the service is far from perfect but at least residents can go out of the town in the evening.

Cllr Parsons said: “Admittedly, this does not fully answer our transport needs, but it does at least end the curfew this town has been suffering.

“I would like to offer thanks to Glen, who was the person responsible for initiating the return to this town's connections to Northwich some years ago, when none existed.”

“People may say that it only goes to Winsford and Sandbach but from there you can then connect to Crewe, Congleton and Macclesfield.”

An evening service to Northwich is something that has been called for from Middlewich residents, but Cllr Parsons says Cheshire West and Chester Council would have to fund the service.

He added: “What we need next is to get the evening service to Northwich back because there is nothing going that way.

“But that would have to come from Cheshire West and Chester and they have just completely refused to put any funding into it.”

The 37E bus service is due to start running at the end of October.
