DRIVERS in mid Cheshire will be given the chance to have their cars checked for free by firefighters before the colder weather sets in.

Along with partner agencies, firefighters will be carrying out free safety checks on cars as part of their continuing campaign for safer roads in Cheshire.

The firefighters will be visiting towns around Cheshire throughout October and will be at Morrisons, in Winsford, from 1pm to 4pm on Tuesday, October 14, Waitrose, in Northwich, from 9.30am to 1pm on Wednesday, October 15, and Tesco, in Middlewich, on Tuesday, October 28.

Tyres will be checked for bulges, tyre depth and pressure by tyre company ATS Tyres, and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service mechanics will show drivers how to check oil and water levels, and explain the importance of maintaining these levels.

Frances Egerton, one of the service's road safety officers, said: "It's important to be prepared in case bad weather strikes.

“Engaging with drivers across Cheshire to advise them on safer driving in wintery conditions is an important part of our road safety campaigning and I'm hoping that people will take the time to have their cars checked by our crews.”

Every driver who has a vehicle check will get a winter driving pack which includes safety leaflets, tyre pressure and depth gauges and a torch.
