MIDDLEWICH Neighbourhood Plan is set to be drawn up in the next couple of weeks after no objections were made to the proposed Middlewich Town boundaries.

The neighbourhood area outlined for Middlewich was submitted on August 11 and is similar to areas marked out for other initiatives including the Middlewich Vision Action Plan, which does not include nearby villages such Byley, Wimboldsley and Sproston.

The area consultation period reached its end date of Wednesday, September 24, without any objections and now the council will draw up a document containing details of the neighbourhood plan for the next stage.

Jonathan Williams, Middlewich town clerk, said: “We had no objections so now we will be producing a consultation plan and putting it out there to the public in the next couple of weeks.”

However, despite being in the very early stages of development, residents are already making their ideas known about what the neighbourhood plan should include.

David Williams, co-ordinator for the Middlewich Action Cycle Group, is concerned over the town becoming isolated and says he wants to see the plan develop a network of safe cycling and walking routes.

David said: “I strongly support the application by Middlewich for a neighbourhood plan, however I am concerned that the town's location within Cheshire East is somewhat isolated because the northern, eastern and western boundaries with Cheshire West & Chester.

“My interest in the neighbourhood plan is sustainable travel by bicycle and walking and because Middlewich is so badly served by public transport, links to nearby towns are essential.”
