A MOTHER and daughter from Middlewich will be shaving off their locks to raise money for The Christie, in memory of their son and brother.

Debbie Hobday, 50, and her daughter Kayleigh Unsworth, 26, lost their son and brother Peter Falconbridge to cancer in 2000, and have now decided to host a fundraising event in memory of him.

The event will be held at Middlewich Town Football Club on Sunday, August 31, starting at 12noon, and the pair will be shaving off all of their hair to help raise money for The Christie and make real hair wigs for children going through chemotherapy.

Debbie said: “I really wanted to do something like this because I couldn’t help Peter and I think if I can do something to help others going through the same thing it will help me feel better.

“We wanted to get our heads together and come up with something a bit different to raise as much as we can.

“This was the perfect way to get people to notice and sponsor us because everybody knows how much I absolutely love my hair – I’ve spent five years growing it.

“I’m really looking forward to giving my hair as wigs because I remember being in the ward with Peter and there were little girls there that were really upset at losing their hair so if this makes them smile it’s all worth it.”

“Peter was happy to be at The Christie and the nurses are like a different breed they just can’t do enough, so it’s really nice to now give something back.”

Debbie and Kayleigh have been given a lot of support from sponsors so far as well as morale support from friends and family.

Debbie added: “Our husbands Keith and Scott have been absolutely fantastic in supporting us as they always are.

“I think Kayleigh’s husband Scott was a bit worried at first but they’ve both been really supportive.”

The event will cost £2 per adult with kids going free, and will have various fun activities such as a bouncy castle, face painting, penalty shootout, as well as hot dogs and burgers on sale.
