MIDDLEWICH’s first Food and Drink Festival went down a treat with crowds enjoying demonstrations from a celebrity chef.

The festival was held alongside the monthly Makers Market on Saturday, July 26, and also ran on Sunday, July 27, and showcased locally sourced food.

Celebrity chef David Mooney, who is recognised by most from his role as resident chef on the region’s Granada Tonight programme, gave demonstrations by cooking a savoury cheesecake and duck leg.

Victoria Jackson, organiser of the Makers Market, said: “We had a really great day and David Mooney had everybody giggling, he was hilarious doing his demonstrations.

“He attracted some big crowds and he actually said it was the best response he has had at a food festival.

“I do a lot of these events and I know that when it’s as hot as it was on Saturday, it can be just as bad as a rainy day because people stay at home and have barbeques with their family but we had a really good turnout.”

“Food in Middlewich always sells really well so it was nice to showcase and emphasise the food.”

Middlewich Town Mayor, Clr Paul Edwards, is also keen to see the Food and Drink Festival become an annual event and grow in its success.

Clr Edwards said: “It was the first time we have done this event and it went really well, but hopefully we can build on it and do even better next year as we always aim to do.”
