CLEDFORD Primary School has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to children's literacy.


The school was recognised through the Institute of Education’s Reading Recovery programme at a national awards ceremony.


Cledford Primary was announced as a finalist for Reading Recovery School of the Year 2014, growing professional expertise in literacy throughout the school subcategory, at a celebration ceremony which took place at the Institute of Education on Friday, June 27.


Janet Ferris, chair of judges for the Reading Recovery Awards, said: “This school demonstrates what is possible when we determine that every child will get the help they need to learn to read and write well and with pleasure.


“Children, staff and parents can be justly proud of their achievements.''


Staff from the school were filled with pride at the award ceremony after the hard work gone into teaching reading skills.


Dee Griffiths, reading recovery teacher, said: 'The staff at Cledford have been committed to growing their expertise in the teaching of reading ever since I took up my post as reading specialist at the school.


“This award is testament to their hard work and passion for teaching.”


Jane Booth, Cledford Primary School head teacher, added: “I am immensely pleased that Cledford's commitment to the teaching of reading has been recognised with this national award.”
