TEENAGER Charlie Hemming travelled in style to a school prom thanks to Cancer Research UK Ambassador Neil Olsson.

The 16-year-old has undergone treatment for cancer, and the four-hour chauffeur experience was donated by Neil, a member of the Crewe and Nantwich Cancer Research committee.

Charlie lives at The Old Paddock in Goostrey, and was a student at Middlewich High School until she was diagnosed with muscle cancer last year.

Neil donated the chauffeur experience as part of a fundraising event he organised, and Charlie and Lauren Smith and Ricky Wallace, friends from Middlewich High School, were taken to and from the school’s end of year prom in a Bentley.

Charlie was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a relatively rare form of cancer, most commonly seen in children aged one to five and less commonly in teenagers aged 15 to 19. Fewer than 60 children are diagnosed with the cancer in the UK each year.

Charlie’s mum Kelli said the cancer had attached itself to Charlie’s bladder, which she has had removed, and the teenager has undergone chemotherapy and proton therapy. She has also suffered problems with her feet as a result of surgery and chemotherapy.

Charlie has an interview in the next few weeks at the Winsford campus of Mid-Cheshire College to take her GCSEs and a hair and beauty course.
