RESIDENTS have launched a campaign for road safety measures along Croxton Lane including the junction with King Street after several fatal accidents.

Gail Armstrong , who lives on Meadow View off Croxton Lane, is eager to see speed reducing measures taking along the road and at the junction after witnessing first hand, the speed at which traffic passes her house.

The Middlewich mum launched the campaign for work to be done and has received the backing from dozens of residents.

Gail said: “With living off Croxton Lane I see people fly down here like you wouldn’t believe.

“I just think how many deaths have to occur before the council decides to spend some money on something like traffic lights.

“My daughter’s only been driving a for a year and it has me panicking every time she pulls in or out.”

Gail posted a comment on the Middlewich Community Group Facebook page to get some feedback from other residents about the issue and was delighted at the huge response she received.

Gail added: “I really wasn’t expecting that much reaction but it is really good because it shows everybody feels the same way.

“I have contacted both Cheshire East Council and Cheshire West and Chester about the different areas of the road and I have told them I’m not doing this on a whim, I have canvassed some feedback from a lot of residents.”

The junction where Croxton Lane meets King Street comes under Cheshire West and Chester Council, while further up Croxton Lane where the speed limit is reduced to 30mph comes under Cheshire East council.

Both councils have raised cases after Gail made contact.

This latest outcry for road safety measures comes after Clr Mike Parsons, ward member for Middlewich at Cheshire East Council, called for a roundabout at the junction to reduce speed of traffic approaching it.

Clr Parsons has been in contact with Jim Gibbins, road safety engineering team leader, about the possibility of putting a roundabout at the junction.

Clr Mike Parsons said: “We’ll be having a meeting in the coming weeks along with other members of the town council.

“Jim has agreed there needs to be some road safety measures taken but he said it won’t be a roundabout as the resources aren’t available.”

“Anything is better than nothing but I don’t think a sign is enough and I won’t leave it at that.”
