PARENTS are calling for action on play areas around Middlewich after complaints were made of broken glass.

A clean-up plan is set to be put into place to make the play areas safer, with Fountain Fields park, on Queen Street, standing out as a priority.

Leah McAteer, mum-of-two from Middlewich, said: “We come here about twice-a-week because we only live around the corner and I don’t think there is anywhere else, they’re all as bad as each other.

“It is full of glass, my three-year-old daughter picked up a glass bottle not long ago.

“She’s never picked up broken glass because I’d never let her but sometimes you can’t stop them in time.”

As part of the latest Middlewich Vision Communtiy Action Plan, play areas in Middlewich were highlighted for rejuvenating and the council claims it is moving through each park one-by-one.

Fountain Fields was also outlined as a priority among the play areas.

Leah added: “If they are going through them one-by-one then they must be doing Fountain Fields last because it’s been like this for a while.”

The situation is currently being looked into by Middlewich Vision, who are communicating with Middlewich Life Group to put a plan into place.

Beverley Cope, Middlewich Vision action plan manager, said: “We are going to endeavour to deal with the issue.

“I think the key is to not only clean up the parks but to establish a plan to avoid the problem in the first place.”

“We’ve had a few people mention the broken glass at Fountain Fields in particular and we will be looking to get the PCSO’s involved.”

There has been a history of anti-social behaviour at Fountain Fields.

The Blue Wyches bowling team, who use the bowling green at the park, were being forced to abandon their green for the 2011 season due to yobs using it as a football pitch.
