PUPILS from Wimboldsley Primary School have experienced their university graduation ten years early during a trip to Chester University.

Year 6 pupils from the school went on the trip to the university and took part in several activities before donning the caps and gowns and taking part in a graduation ceremony.

The day was aimed at preparing the pupils, who are due to leave primary school for secondary school, for the change and to make them aware of what university is.

Fiona Chesters, a teacher at Wimbolsdley Primary School, said:”It’s about preparing them for the next big change which is high school but then to get them even thinking about beyond that.”

“Some of children had heard of university but they didn’t quite know what it was about so it was really good to have pupils coming away saying it is something they want to do when they’re older.”

As well as the graduation ceremony, pupils also took part in team building sessions, then made graduation caps and pinned their dreams and aspirations to it, before being given a tour of the university.

Danielle Russell, 11, a year 6 pupil at Wimboldsley Primary School, said: “It was really good to see what university was and I really enjoyed making the hat full of dreams.”
