CHILDREN in Middlewich are now enjoying a safe and tidy play area after a three month long project saw the renovation of a previously run-down play park.

Pennymoor play area on Pennymoor Drive in Middlewich had come under some criticism by parents in the area claiming that it was not fit for use and unsafe for small children.

After residents voiced their concern, the renovation of the play area was marked as a high priority for the town council and was taken up by Middlewich Vision who included Pennymoor in their 2013-2016 action plan.

Middlewich Vision teamed up with Barclays who sent several volunteers to go to work on the play park in May.

Beverley Cope, Middlewich Vision action plan manager, said: “The play area was flagged up by residents as an area which needed renovation so we planned to do some work with it.

“Barclays then offered to send a team of volunteers to help out which was really nice and we thought it was the perfect opportunity.”

“The play area has been significantly improved and residents have been absolutely delighted with the work that was carried out, one resident was so impressed she supplied refreshments on the day.”

The team of volunteers’ work on the site included cutting back heavily grown foliage, weeding, painting and renewing wooden structures and equipment, and wire brushing and painting the surrounding railings.

Various materials such as wood stain, Hammerite, cutting equipment and waste bags were provided by Ansa which is a company owned by Cheshire East Council.
