SHOPS in Middlewich will be given a makeover due to the town council’s Shop Front Grant Scheme.

The council has launched its Shop Front Grant Scheme and is now receiving applications from stores in the town that want to make the most of the offer.

Stores on Wheelock Street, as well as the Bullring and Hightown areas are being given the chance to receive a grant of either £250, or a 75 per cent payment towards the work needed, depending on which is the lower amount.

Clr Paul Edwards, Middlewich Town Mayor, said: “It’s a great scheme which I’ve been involved in since the start.

“Anything to enhance the high street and get more people spending money in our town is good thing and I think the better shops look the more chance there is of people going into them.”

“We’ve had several shops apply already and hopefully other will see the benefits and want to take up the opportunity.”

The council will be using various local contractors to carry out the work on the shop fronts.

The council will be helped out by Middlewich Vision with the scheme and the group’s action plan manager Beverley Cope is hopeful that the scheme will have a huge impact.

Beverley said: “The Makers Market helps to increase footfall in the town centre and I think this scheme will really help with that as well.”

“The main thing is it will hopefully encourage people to shop locally which would be a huge success to the town.”
