THE winners of the Middlewich Heritage Photographic competition were announced at the Folk and Boat Festival on Saturday, June 14.

The competition was run by Middlewich Heritage and the brief was to capture an image of Cheshire, exploring the landscape both natural & worked and the historic built environment.

David Coles, 55, who lives off Long Lane South in Middlewich, was the overall winner with his photograph ‘Flying High’ which was a photo of a paraglider’s silhouette in front of the sun, taken from Shining Tor, the highest point in Cheshire.

David said: “I was taking different photographs of paragliders and then I noticed one eclipsed in the sun and thought I need to get a picture of that.

“I had to wait hours but it worked really nicely, it kind of reminds me of E.T on the bike in front of the moon.

David only took up photography in 2007 when he went to Silverstone for his silver wedding anniversary and wanted to get a SLR camera to take good photo’s.

He then went to Crewe College to learn how to use it properly and says from then on he had the bug.

Other winners of the competition were; Allan England for the Camera Phone category, Simon Cooper for the Homage to WW1 category, Oliver Sorenson for the Young Photographer category, Gwyndaf Roberts for the Environmental Conservation category, and Lee Facciponti-Moore for the Landscape category.
