A CHURCH in Middlewich that is in need of a £1million restoration has been given a helping hand from a metal detector society.

St Michael and all Angels Church has expressed its thanks to the Crewe and Nantwich metal detecting society after the group offered to help with the fund raising for the restoration.

Michael Reed, Assistant Treasurer at St Michael and All Angels, said: “We are very grateful for the help they are offering to give us.

“It will help us a lot but the good thing is it also helps the metal detecting society so it’s very much a mutual benefit.”

The church, which is a listed building, needs work amounting to £1million, most of which will be paid for by grants but some needs to be paid for by the church.

The metal detecting society will be hosting an event in October to raise money for the church after Mr Atkin, a Bostock farmer, offered his land for the event.

The event is set to raise around £400 for the church with the event in October.

Joy Beresford, a member of the Crewe and Nantwich Metal detecting society, said: “We are always looking to help out local charities and causes and it’s great to be able to raise money for the church for their restoration.”

“We’ve now raised more than £37,000 for local charities which I’m really proud of because we aren’t a big society so to help out in any way is great.”

The society hosts regular metal detecting days to raise money for local charities and are currently looking for land to raise money for The Joshua Tree.
