IN last week’s Guardian we reported that a church in Middlewich was in need of £1m restoration and are looking for help raising funds to make sure the work is done.

A Metal Detecting Society from Crewe and Nantwich has offered to host a rally to raise funds to help the Church in need, but is on the search for land to use for their event.

The society has called for landowners in the area to do their bit to help preserve a building that is important to the Middlewich community by giving up their land for a day.

The society uses the land to host a metal detecting rally and charges each person to take part, giving the money raised to a charitable cause.

Joy Beresford, a member of the Crewe and Nantwich Metal Detecting Society, said: “We would love to be able to help the Church and do our bit but we also need someone to help us to do that.”

“We often do rallies to raise money for certain causes and so far we’ve raised more than £15,000 for different charities with our rallies.”

The rally would need a farm or other land of a minimum of 25 acres but the bigger the site the more money is raised.
