A FORMER Middlewich resident has published a book containing poetry inspired by Middlewich countryside.

Rebecca Granillo, who used to live at Pennymoor Drive, has joined four other poets from Cheshire to publish a collection of poetry in order to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Standing By The Watchtower covers a variety of topics including life, death, love and humour.

Rebecca, who now lives in Canada, said: “I was inspired by the plants in my own back garden as well as the Roman field and lovely walk down by the canal where I used to walk our dog.

“We have some gorgeous scenery in Cheshire and I'm hoping to work a few things that happened and some of the town’s history and scenery into the next Watchtower publication.”

Author and poet C.S. Woolley had the idea of putting together the book last Christmas and was inspired to raise money for Macmillan from the support and care she experienced with her own family.

“My grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer which eventually claimed her life,” she said.

“It was a very difficult time for my family during which the Macmillan nurses cared for my grandma and supported my grandad.

“I wanted to be able to do something for other people and families that are suffering from the effects of cancer, to be able to support Macmillan in the wonderful work they are doing and educate people that they are there.”

Standing By The Watchtower is available online and £1 from every sale goes to Macmillan Cancer Support.
