SOME residents fear the peace and tranquility of Middlewich’s tourism asset – the canals – could be threatened with the proposed route of the HS2.
With the Government’s proposed route, 250mph trains will cut between Middlewich and Winsford.
The line would cross the Trent and Mersey Canal and the River Dane floodplain on a 745m viaduct and bridge the Middlewich branch of the Shropshire Union near Minshull Vernon.
Patricia Cooley, of St Ann’s Road, said: “If you are having a nice relaxing time on the canal it will certainly shatter your peace.”
