STEVE Richardson has stepped down from his role as chairman of 1874 Northwich.

The club confirmed in a statement this evening that Mr Richardson had relinquished his role with immediate effect for health reasons having suffered a stroke last week.

Richardson, who first took on the role in 2020 having been on the board since 2014, is recovering at home but has taken the advice of medics to step aside.

Vice-chairman Richard Stockton has agreed to take over responsibilities as acting chairman, with club treasurer John Coats taking over as acting vice-chairman.

"The board would like to thank Steve for his immense commitment and dedication over the last decade of service to the club," an 1874 statement read.

"We are sure that all at the club wish him a swift and full recovery, and look forward to seeing him back on the terraces very soon."

1874 have also confirmed an owner's meeting will take place on Thursday, April 4, at Townfield to keep members informed of how the club will move forward.
