WAR memorials have been reinstalled in Winsford.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has provided an update on the town’s £22.5 million regeneration.

As part of this project, the Cenotaph and the Boer War soldier have been relocated to what will become a new public square, outside the Winsford library.

Councillor Nathan Pardoe, cabinet member for inclusive economy, regeneration and digital transformation, said: "Work on the refurbishment and relocation of the Winsford town centre war memorials is continuing and is due to be completed this summer.

“The two war memorials have been carefully cleaned, restored, and reassembled using specialist equipment and relocated in their new location in front of the library.”

Councillor Pardoe continued: “Further work is ongoing to install new paving around the memorials.

“Visitors will benefit from improved and increased space around the memorials, and they will be installed at surface level to provide better access for all.

“The benches that were next to the war memorials are also being relocated to the new square.”

Alongside the public spaces, the regeneration of Winsford will see the creation of new retail units and a 168-space car park.

One of these units, on the corner of Dene Drive and High Street, was handed over to Costa Coffee last month.

The coffee shop, which will boast indoor seating and a drive-thru, is due to open on Friday (May 10).

Meanwhile, work is now underway on the steel structure for what will become a B&M superstore and garden centre.

The unit, roughly half the size of a football pitch, is due to be handed over to the discount retailer in early 2025 for fit-out.

Cllr Pardoe added: “Work is ongoing with the first phase of the regeneration, and people are seeing visible progress as the council delivers a town centre that Winsford can be proud of."
